History and interesting facts: BR 232 Ludmilla
The diesel-electric BR 232, nicknamed Ludmilla, was built at the Soviet locomotive works in Voroshilovgrad (now Luhansk). Between 1973 and 1982, 709 locomotives of the original class 132 were produced for East Germany's Deutsche Reichsbahn; they were later designated BR 232. With roughly 2,200 kW of power, a top speed of 120 km/h and electric train heating, they could haul both passenger expresses and heavy freight trains. Their deep engine sound and imposing appearance made them railway legends.
