History and interesting facts: Csörgő 418

The M41 diesel-hydraulic locomotive, now class 418, earned its Csörgő nickname from its distinctive engine sound. Ganz-MÁVAG built 114 of these locomotives between 1973 and 1984, including seven for GYSEV. With 1,325 kW of engine power and a top speed of 100 km/h, the class was mainly used on passenger trains over non-electrified lines. It also proved useful on suburban push-pull services.
